A Yokohama Walk: Killing Time

February 20th, 2010 | 4 Comments | Posted in Journal, Photos, Tokyo

Yokohama Bay Quarter by iPhoneI’ve been working in both Yokohama and Shinjuku all month, and yesterday I found myself done with the Yokohama side early so I decided to chill in the Bay Quarter for a while since the weather was pretty decent. And, since one of my new hobbies is trying to take decent shots with my iPhone, I’ve made a post based on a few images of what I saw yesterday. Note: iPhone cameras are notoriously bad and there’s a growing group of photographers who are making an art out of iPhone photography.

First, I hit up Blenz Coffee in Shin-Takashima. If you haven’t heard of this place (a chain actually), it’s because they’re not well known outside their home of Canada. But, for the same price they’re a hell of a lot better than Starbucks and they’ve got the balls to kick high school and college students out if they hang around too long after they finish their extra-small drinks. Anyway, had a blueberry cream cheese bagel and a mug of their daily blend while kicking it outside on their patio.

After contemplating where to go for lunch, I decided just to head back to Shinjuku and do lunch there. On the way back to the station, I passed through the huge Nissan showroom they have there in the Bay Quarter.

I used to have one of these. Brings back memories…Saikyo Line train passing Kabuki-cho at night

I didn’t realize until then how much I’ve been missing owning a car and driving everywhere. As any of you who read me regularly know, I absolutely hate the fucking trains in Tokyo. What can I say, I’m a West-Coast American boy; I need freedom and plenty of space to move around in.

But, I do enjoy living in Tokyo, regardless of the commutes from hell. And, today was a good day to chill in Yokohama for a while.

Nice. I’ve enjoyed Yokohama the couple times I’ve been there, but only in that it stirs a faint whiff of Kobe, to this day my fave city among any I’ve lived in, and I’ve lived in a few.

As for a car, hell, I’ll be plunking down for one m’self in the next 1-2 months. Aaw, yeah.

Yeah, Kobe is definitely a cool town. People there are great.
Lots of Tokyo shithead bleedover into Yokohama, but still a cool town in its own right.

I got a canon dc20 2.o mega pix dvd cam that just don’t do it. I’m glad something else takes pictures like it’s lens is made of cheese cloth too :)

Yeah, I’m starting to get really into this challenge of trying to take good shots with an iPhone camera. In fact, a fellow iPhone-shitty-camera hater and I challenged each other in Minatomirai this last weekend. We both came away with some decent shots, soon to be submitted for everyone’s approval (or disapproval).
